Traditional Auto-Routing Problems

While there are many auto-routing products on the market, we have yet to see one that actually performs well. Most solutions rely on perfect data in order to deliver any viable routing scenario that could be put in production. Therefore, we have yet to meet a single client that possesses perfect data. Most auto-routing solutions were built initially for transit systems or logistical operations and are not accounting for all complexities of day-to-day school bus routing transportation.

Throughout the development process of Pathalyst, we were working with school transportation professionals and a set goal to give realistic solutions to common routing problems.

Some of the challenges we had to overcome were:

Software must be able to work with incomplete and inaccurate data as there is no client that has perfect data.
Routes and trips must be operational in reality and not on paper.
System generated routing scenarios have to be close to 100% accurate to be efficient and provide clients with a true value.
Generated routes have to be more efficient and provide guaranteed results.
All school bus transportation rules and variables have to be accounted for.
System must be able to generate full multi-school trips accounting for dead-head time.
System must be dynamic in settings and configurations as most school districts are unique.
Software must be very easy to use.

As a result of extensive collaboration of school bus routing professionals, scientists and IT engineers, we have developed Pathalyst, a software that addresses these challenges and delivers superb value to our clients.
